چکیده

─ A new functionality for the hybrid electromagnetic – thermodynamic simulations of microwave heating scenarios in the time domain is presented. The new functionality consists in the modelling of the heated load movement throughout the simulated process. Various types of the movement trajectories have been allowed for, including load rotation and load translation along user-defined piecewise-linear paths. Key aspects of this novel approach are addressed and justified from the computational electromagnetics perspective. Multiphysics simulation results are presented for a fictious and a commercially available microwave oven. Index Terms ─ Coupled electromagnetic and thermal simulation, FDTD methods, hybrid modelling, microwave heating, multiphysics modelling,

Electromagnetic Fast Firing for Ultrashallow Junction Formation

The creation of low resistivity, ultrashallow source/drain regions in MOS device structures requires rapid thermal processing (RTP) techniques that restrict diffusion and activate a significant percentage of the implanted dopant species. While current heating techniques depend upon illumination based heating, a new technology, electromagnetic induction heating (EMIH), achieves a rapid heating o...

Superconducting Microstrip-Fed Antenna Coupled to a Microwave Kinetic Inductance Detector

A proper antenna to couple to a microstrip Microwave Kinetic Inductance Detector (MKID) is designed and simulated. A twin-slot microstrip-fed inline antenna is designed for frequency band of 600-720~GHz integrated with an elliptical lens and coupled to the MKID. A systematic design procedure for design of such antenna with microstrip inline feeding is presented. Whole structure of lens and twin...

High-temperature-short-time thermal quarantine methods

In this paper, kinetic models are discussed with respect to their uses in describing the intrinsic thermal mortality of insect pests. A unique heating block system was used to obtain kinetic information for the thermal mortality of codling moth larvae. The kinetic data demonstrated the possibility to develop high-temperature-short-time thermal treatments to control codling moth and reduce therm...

Coupled Thermal-Electromagnetic Model for Microwave Heating of Temperature-Dependent Dielectric Media

Microwave heating processes involve electromagnetic and thermal effects coupled together through the local temperature dependence of the material dielectric properties. This paper presents a one-dimensional model for the coupled electromagnetic-thermal process and demonstrates its solutions for typical problems. The local temperature dependence of the lossy dielectric medium is taken into accou...

The Impact of Cooling and Heating on the Sunyaev–zel’dovich Effect

We use hydrodynamical simulations to assess the impact of radiative cooling and ‘pre-heating’ on predictions for the Sunyaev–Zel’dovich (SZ) effect. We find that cooling significantly reduces both the mean SZ signal and its angular power spectrum. Pre-heating can give a higher mean distortion, while leaving the angular power spectrum below that found in a simulation without heating or cooling. ...
